Live concert series Live at York Museum Gardens have announced that beloved Sheffield singer-songwriter Richard Hawley will be closing this summer’s series on 5th July with a very special evening to celebrate 20 years of his critically-acclaimed album ‘Coles Corner’, which he will be performing in full alongside a selection of favourites from across his incredible career.
Since starting his first band in school, Richard Hawley has quietly become one of the country’s most revered musical creatives having released nine studio albums under his own name as well as two with cult britpoppers Longpigs, a stint as a touring musician in Pulp alongside close friend Jarvis Cocker and a jaw-dropping collection of collaborations
that includes everyone from Lisa Marie Presley to The Arctic Monkeys. ‘Coles Corner’, Hawley’s third full-length, took inspiration from the legendary Sheffield landmark of the same name, a popular meeting place for first dates for decades, and was released in September 2005 to unanimous acclaim, subsequently receiving a Mercury Music Prize nomination for Best Album the following year. Likened to luminaries such as Roy Orbison and Scott Walker, the treasure trove of rockabilly, bluegrass, classic soul and vintage chamber pop that has come to be Hawley’s hallmark is on full display alongside a deep resonance with the cultural fabric of his home city.
Playing ‘Coles Corner’ in its entirety and lovingly selected pieces from a career spanning four decades, Richard Hawley will be joined in July by 2024 Mercury Prize Winners English Teacher and the utterly unique American-born now Manchester-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist BC Camplight for a truly unforgettable evening in the grounds of York Museum Gardens.
Returning for its second run of shows this July following a sold-out debut series last year, Live at York Museum Gardens is a weekend of unique performances within the grounds of the city’s beloved landmark. Richard Hawley completes this summer’s series alongside fellow headliners British Art-Rock royalty Elbow, disco funk trailblazer Nile Rogers & CHIC and the debut York Comedy Festival featuring Katherine Ryan, Dara Ó Briain and more.
Launched in July 2024, the inaugural sold out weekend saw 12,000 music fans enjoy unforgettable performances from the likes of Shed Seven, Jack Savoretti, Peter Doherty and more, significantly contributing to the city’s bars, restaurants, shops and hotels in the process.
Located in the heart of York and founded in the 1830s, York Museum Gardens are over 10 acres of picturesque botanic gardens set against the backdrop of the ruins of St Mary’s Abbey and home to the Yorkshire Museum. Today, the gardens welcome around 1.3 million visitors a year as a space to relax and enjoy.
From bringing musical legends like Richard Hawley to York along with providing an incredible platform for rising regional talent; the event's promoters, Leeds based Futuresound Group and York Museums Trust are looking forward to another summer of creative collaboration to deliver amazing outdoor concerts.

We are absolutely thrilled to be welcoming Richard Hawley to’ Live at York Museum Gardens’ this year. This is the last of this year’s events to announce and to have an artist like Richard Hawley, not only coming to York, but performing the iconic Coles Corner album in its entirety is a real honour for us. His eclectic mix of genres against the backdrop of St Mary’s Abbey is just the perfect landscape to close the music series for 2025.
